New growth?

On the 1st of March I purchased a Den. Pixie Princess X Livingston 'Mishima' in spike, it actually had 2 spikes and was in flower as well. This is an 'antelope' type Den. Phalaenopsis which I don't recall ever having before. Within the last couple of days, the flowers have all faded and I've cut the flower stalks. What I'm finding a little disturbing is that there has been no new growth of any sort; basal roots, or shoots, nothing. It gets water/fertilizer every 3rd day and is in full to indirect southern exposure sun. There has been some shrinkage of the flowering bulb, it is potted in what I guess to be lava rock. Is it reasonable to assume that the lack of vegetative new growth is due to it having been in flower?
