Pollinating Ping to itself ?

I have a p. Moctezuma that has a flower on it. I just saw a second fower getting ready to open. Can I use one flower to pollinate the other on the same plant? If so how would I go about it?

Thanks for any and all help.

A lot of Pings aren’t self fertile but you might as well give it a try. Take the pollen from under the stigma flap and spread it on top of the flap. You can use the same flower or another one.

Depends on the species. You’ll only know if it worked if you get seeds that germinate. Sometimes they make seeds that aren’t fertile. Sometimes they swell up like they are full of seeds then crack open and are empty. I’ve had them take like 2 months to crack open and then nothing inside. It’s all just up to chance if it will work or not.

I use a small paintbrush and insert it under the flap and give it a little twist. Then spread the pollen on top of the flap. Pretty simple just make sure you have good eyes to see with. lol Some people use a toothpick instead.
