I've been reading up on venus flytrap dormancy and fungicide is mentioned many times, especially for the fridge method. I was wondering if anyone has a favorite brand that they like to use.

This is what I use, Insecticide, Fungicide, and Miticide.

From what I've read, that Bayer stuff is really good. The thing is, I don't like the idea of having something like that next to my food in the refrigerator, no matter how well it's wrapped. (Also, it's a non-starter for my wife!). I've been using powered cinnamon. It's certainly not as effective as the Bayer but seems to do the job adequately. And if it does escape, it smells yummy.

So do you just sprinkle cinnamon all over the plant/soil? How often do you need to reapply?

I just sprinkle a bit on the soil before shutting them away- which seems to stop a fungus infection before it takes hold. But that's not the recommended technique. If you google "cinnamon as fungicide" you'll find lots of formulas for mixing it with water to make a spray. I've never needed to do that, never had real problems with fungus in the refrigerator. My experience has been that even the few plants that come out the fridge with strings of white fungus between the stems recover very quickly when exposed to moving air.

I'd start off with a minimum of cinnamon on the medium and check the plants every week or two to see if there's a problem starting - you can always add more cinnamon later or use stronger chemicals.

BTW, be sure that you're using real cinnamon. Apparently several brands use a cinnamon-like substitute.

I wish Bayer was available in Canada.
My suggestion that I've been using for the past few years is this:
Once a day I open the container to let the plants breathe. If you have a cold enough windowsill with sunlight place them there until the sun goes down. And then place them back into the fridge. Yes it's tedious and yes I do this every day with my 20 plants. But I have never seen fungus or algae doing this.
The reason I don't keep the plants in the window all winter is because it gets too cold at night and an inch or more of ice envelops my entire window. -30 here haha..
Just a method to try instead of applying something to your plants.

Brrr. That is cold! So you leave them in the container even when they are on your windowsill?

This is what they look like when I have them together in the fridge. I seal it with press n seal to keep them from drying out.
And then the second picture is right before I start putting them away. You will notice the ice beginning to build up. Ignore the snow on the plants. Sometimes I use a razor blade to shave ice off to simulate a nice cold snow.

Oh, I see. Thanks for posting the pictures, that clears it up for me. It's comforting to see how your flytraps look because I was worried about mine, but it looks like yours so I guess it's doing ok so far during its dormancy.
