The trap did not close completely around the insect.
Will the trap be able to digest the insect?

In my experience it should be fine, but may not digest the insect completely.

The size of the prey looks a little large for the trap size

The trap will probably turn black, but the leaf may live. Nothing to worry about, it's a 100% natural occurrence. Just try not to purposely feed it bugs that are too large.

How is your VFT otherwise? It looks a little stressed. Maybe dry or in need of light, but I can't tell.

My VFT just came out of dormancy. I bought him on a webshop. It's a Red road oxford west.
He had leaves that stood upright but after the transporting and repotting, the leaves went to lie down.
The prey is a redrunner :)
