I've been reading about TC about as much as I can. Especially the diy angle of it. It seems that you guys have something going so I am going to try the methods that are on here. Im not particularly overinterested in creating mass amounts of VFT but I have terrariums nonetheless. I think that it willbe easier to learn the techniques for CP as you guys have it down it appears. I can learn then move to other areas. I think amassing the equipment is the hardest thing. At least after understanding what everything does.

(1) I want to use Mason jars instead because I already have a bunch of them, is this going to be a problem? What caps should I use from phytoteclab.com? Or ar ethe metal rings and lids good enough to start? I want to be able to lay the jars on their sides or stand them up for larger plants.

(2) I only need MURASHIGE & SKOOG (MS) BASAL MEDIUM w/VITAMINS Product ID: M519 to start with, is that right? Or do I really need the other things. Shipping is said to be costly so shold I order anything else when I order the medium?

Im looking at the Presto 23 quart pressure cooker if you guys recommend that. It is in my price range. If I like it or am successfula t this I will get a bigger one if need be.

Ima total newb at this but have wanted to do this for a while. I would like to try a variety of plants, including aquatic plants, terrarium plants, and some trees or shrubs. For intents and purposes Im following the CP method of TC until I get that right. I suppose that if you have anything else to tell me let me have it.

Well, if you're successful at TC, you're going to do just that

I use mason jars. They work just fine. If you get the mason jars with the standard size mouths, these lids work:

Yep, that's the only media you'll need to start with for flytraps. If you're going to do other CPs like Nepenthes, you'll need different media. But that's not all you need. For a complete list of things you need try reading some of the older threads in this forum or the list in the article here:

As a hobbyist, that should be more than you need. I only have a 16 quart pressure cooker and that's sufficient for me.

Well, if you're going to try a bunch of different species of plants, you're going to need a bunch of different supplies. In order to initialize most species of plants, you'll need some hormones. Venus fly traps can be initialized without any hormones, but this isn't the case for most other plants unless you're starting with seeds. Also, any woody plants will need to be grown in woody plant media. I'd recommend starting with a few different kinds of media (small amounts) and experimenting with different plants if that's what you'd like to do.

The way I see it there looks like a lot to learn. Id like to try lots of things at once but I think that I should stick to a few things at first. I don't fully know the differences in media and hormones and what not yet but Im sure Ill figure it all out. Im prepared to make nothing of notable interest to begin with other than mistakes. Luckily I can also learn from mistakes and successes made here.

Ive been into hydroponics, cloning with hydroponics, aquariums, and terrariums for quite a while. This will tie in with those seamlessly I hope.

Since shipping is liek it is for the chemicals is there anything else that I need or can use while Im ordering so that I dont hav eto make another order as soon as I get thte first one? I want to try other things too and hopefully this is enough to start with. Does it appear that I have what I need for CP tissue cultures? And for others?

MURASHIGE & SKOOG (MS) BASAL MEDIUM w/VITAMINS, cytokinen, and an auxin. BPA and kinetin to start with.

I went and gathered the materials that I could source locally. Im waitin gon a couple things to get here through the mail, like chemicals and the pressure cooker.

Has anyone used a substrate along with agar or MS, such as perlite mixed in? I saw some other plants done like that.
