Hey guys, I'm just starting to do tissue culture. I need some media but I can't buy so much because I just need about 500 ml of media. If anyone can provide me with a media mix enough for 500 ml, that would be awesome. It would be great if you can give me some agar too. Thank you

Well I don't do tissue culture, but it doesn't seem like a lot of people would have a bunch of equipment that they could give away for free. Just my two cents

I just need a bit of media. I can buy it but all the things on ebay are too much. I just need very small amounts. I think the measurements is about 2 grams for 500 ml.

It might be worth contacting a local university, they might be able to help.
Phytotech have the media you want in sachets ready to make 1L of media. Sold for $1.17 per 1L sachet or $6.22 for a 10L sachet:

You can get agar from here too, or from your local asian market.

Chances are you will probably want to make a second batch of media at some point, so it might be worth while getting more than just enough to make 500mL.

You need agar for this as well right? I've been looking into it and it seems like there's a lot of conflicting instructions on how to make it.

Hi Cross,
For the link I provided, agrar is required. If you follow the recipe on the tissue culture FAQ forum post, you need about 1 smidgen spoon of agar per 25mL of media (I have this in grams in my notebook but I wont have access to that for another 3 months).

From the product info page for the MS I gave a link to, you need 4.43 grams of power to make 1L of 'Full' MS. if you want '1/2' MS you half the amount of powder. One caveat is the vitamin dose, the Phytotech MS has 'Full' vitamins if mixed at full strength. Most carnivorous TC recopies I have found call for '1/2' MS with 'Full Vitamins', meaning if you put half the powder (to make '1/2' MS) you now have half the vitamins, Phytotech do sell the vitamins mix as a solution you can add in to top it back up to 'full'. From what I have heard, for most carnivorous plants this isn't too critical.

Hope that helps.
