On Unix (and Linux) systems, time is calculated and stored based on the number of seconds elapsed since midnight (morning) January 1, 1970. That is the default date/time if none is specified and the new year this year happens to be 47 years since that date, hence the birthdays.

Ah gotcha. I was like dang theres alot of 47 year olds here haha. Thanks for the clarification.
