I have been fortunate enough to be able to purchase some pretty good VFT's here in Australia, most recently the B52 has become available (very limited availability I might add!) and I was lucky enough to be able to get my hands on one. But I have also found out about another interesting form which is currently undergoing testing for stability here in Australia - it has been propagated (and cloned) for the last 3 years and so far seems to be stable - it has not yet been released for sale, but I do have some photos to share. It could be the effect af a very interesting gene expression, called co-dominance. I'm almost sure of it, we could tell this for sure only by cross-pollinating some of these plants. If that's true that could be a fantastic news, co-dominance happens only occasionally in the world of plants

Very interesting color patterns--

Do you know whether this Flytrap clone has been tested for viruses? Variegation can be caused by other things, but I'm thinking of the potyvirus for example that caused variegation in tulips and which fueled the "tulipomania" craze in Holland and elsewhere during the 1600s:

Although viruses can produce interesting results, I wouldn't want a virus-infected plant among my own, fearing spreading the infection to other plants when I use scissors for example to cut leaves and groom the plants.

However, if this patchy coloration is not caused by a virus or other plant pathogen, it is a new and very interesting color variation.

That's true, but a virus would have caused changes of coloration of the whole plant (when it goes about VFT's), here only the trap blade cells show the "strange" coloration, what is great!:) maybe it affects the synthesis of some pigments in the cells?
Some seeds obtained form that plant would put some light on it. Maybe it's good to self-pollinate the flowers in this case?

Interesting looking plant! But I have the same question as Steve. I wonder if it's caused by a virus?

I have to giggle, who knows; maybe the swine flue has hit the VFT community. Sorry I had to do it. This looks like a fun little plant. I hope it pans out in the long run.

We can't tell it for sure now, seeds obtained from self-pollinating could give us answers maybe

weird but awesome at teh same time

The color pattern reminds me of someone smacking a paint brush covered in red against their hand, sending flecks of paint outward. Very neat.

yeah, if that becomes a legit clone i will be needing one for sure!
