Various Carnivores

Thanks for the website suggestions on my last forum post. They were helpful, but I really need something in the US due to high shipping costs and various other things. I finally set up my terrarium, so now I need to add some new plants. I want a wide variety of plants. I listed some plants that I wanted that I found on an Australian plant nursery website, but since the nursery is in Australia I don't feel comfortable ordering. I don't want my plants to get damaged or hung up in customs. At the moment I have a regular Dionaea Muscipula and a Sarracenia Purpurea Venosa. My Drosera Venusta has died, or at least I think it has died. So I need to replace it with another rosette forming Drosera variety. I'm also looking for a 'Pink Venus' along with other varieties of carnivorous plants to go along with my current plants. If anyone has any plants that they would like to sell or if anyone knows of a good US based website to order from please let me know. It would be a great help!

So, were the plants you ordered from http://www.flytraps.com in good shape? That's where I was thinking of ordering from. I am dieing to get new plants! I ordered my last three plants from http://www.bugbitingplants.com as well. My Drosera Venusta died and the color of my Dionaea Muscipula is still off. I can't see any signs of color in the new traps. I did get my money back for the Drosera Venusta though.

Yeah, I wouldn't order from Cook's either. I got 5 plants from them and they are all dead. Those are the only plants I've ever had die on me.

David Conner sells excellent plants. He doesn't have a huge selection, but his plants are very high quality:

Also, http://flytrapshop.com has good plants, but not a large selection.

I looked at some of their plants earlier today while I was looking for a handful of good websites. The only thing that I don't like about that website is the lack of variety. That's the main thing that I am looking for. Someone suggested a website called Triffid Parks in Eastern Australia that I really liked, but I'm not fond of ordering from over seas. Another one I found that I liked was called Little Shop of Horrors, but again, it is in Britain. I also went to http://www.carnivorousplantnursery.com and found a wide variety of plants, but their prices are a bit high for my taste. Another one that I found was "link removed by Linton 2/2/09"

I sympathize with you. I was trying to expand my collection this spring and I found it difficult to find a good site in the US to purchase plants from. I ended up getting lucky and having someone help me out.

I just need something different for my terrarium and I really love plants, especially carnivorous ones. Hopefully I will find a good place to buy from.

Is it really this hard to get good plants in the US :?: We have a good selection of growers willing to sell in Europe (some would say to many) Maybe you should all club together and import some good plants from Europe, split between 3 or 4 people package would be cheap and getting the paperwork would also be affordable

That's a good idea carl. I would definitely be interested in splitting a package with someone.

That really is a good idea! I've seen so many good websites for nurseries in Europe, if we all split the cost then we could all get the plants that we want at an affordable price. :D

Anyone else here want to get in on some plants?

I have to figure out exactly what plants I want to order and how much money I have to spend, but I may be interested. I have to double check the websites that I found last night though to make sure that they don't have what I want first. I found a lot of websites with a nice variety.

Don't forget guys you will need to get CITES paperwork but a good exporter could inform you of every think.

Here are some I've used and found very good

Trev Cox from Ireland - http://www.vftshop.com/

Mike King - http://www.mikeking64.pwp.blueyonder.co ... mepage.htm He's website is mainly Sarracenia's but he does have a good collection of VFT's

There are some good ones in Germany but my Email's playing up at the moment and I can't access my account and contacts.

If I understood the CITES better I would love to help you. Maybe if I get time over the weekend I'm get on our customs website and read up on it.

That'd be very helpful Carl. I'll try to find some time to research it as well.
