It seems like they are trimming off dead leaves. But more than likely as . Sundewwolf said, they are actors. He would just be cutting and not knowing what he was doing. That video was likely produced by a wildlife officer or a group. Seems strange to cut the fly trap the way he does. But notice the guy says that looks like a 30 cent piece.
The Sarracenia were pretty sweet!

I've heard the space ship theory on the origins of the flytraps for many years now so I'm not going to knock the guy for his new age beliefs (unless proven otherwise by evolutionary science) as silly as they may sound when spoken aloud.

Those black guys are very poor so a few extra bucks mean a lot. He even said he spreads the seeds around so there will be future plants to harvest. Ranger Roid gets to bust them and the buyers every so often to justify his salary/benefits so he is as dependent on the bad guys continuing to do bad things for his livelihood as the bad guys are on the flytraps continuing to exist for harvesting.

I personally enjoy my robust ever dividing giant cultivars much more than my puny "typicals" as I imagine most hobbyist do also so hopefully the demand for wild caught going into the future will be next to nothing.

It is so simple to propagate venus flytraps. It is just stupid that people do this. They are in the native range of the plant so it should be extra easy to propagate them.

At 12.31 minute, no actor grabs plants just for show. Logical fallacy to think otherwise.

Dionaea groups with Droseraceae in phylogenetic studies, so if they were indeed extraterrestrial I would not expect them to have close genetic relatives of earthly origin as they do. I believe that was some sort of joke, as the intro seems to be a parody of The X-files (if you see the very beginning of the video they made it "the Plant files" with a similar logo).... but for this reason I also wondered if the entire production was staged or if they were recording real poachers later on.
