It's here! Yeah, I know, I'm a bit waay too excited but oh well... it's here GREAT PACKAGING BY THE WAY! I was nervous about it surviving shipping but... I couldn't even get the plant out of the wrapping... Yeah... we had a fight. It wasn't pretty. The wrapping almost won... it was horrible LOL.

But now it's in it's new home and Steve was even nice enough to feed it a meal before sending it on it's way :0)

Yeah, Matt and I both maybe overdo the packing a little, but we really, really don't want the plant to be shaken around too much during shipping, or as little as possible. There is always some settling of the soil though. This Venus Flytrap was in a mound above the top of the pot before shipping; it seems like there's always about 1/2 inch or a little more of compaction during shipment.

I'll bet that Flytrap loves the fresh air again and being able to spread out, after several dark days being shaken and confined. It looks great in its new home. If you have any questions about its continuing care, just ask here at the Forum!

I would hardly call that a "baby" flytrap! It looks happy and healthy (just like all the plants I've received from either Steve or Matt) and I'm sure it's happy to be back in the light! Enjoy the new plant and feel free to ask questions if you have any!

I'm happy you do "overdo the packing a little". I doubt anything less than nuclear fallout could damage the plant in that packaging! I do have a question though, was this plant repotted before shipping or will I need to repot it sometime soon? Or will it be happy in it's current pot for some time?

By the way, thanks for feeding it before shipment. A total of three traps currently have a nice juicy bug in it's jaws, I noticed them after I put it in the sun. I got a laugh out of that

The Flytrap was repotted just before shipment, so it should be fine in that pot all season. You could transplant it into a larger or different pot perhaps next year after its next dormancy. It went through a complete dormancy here in New Mexico, so it is really ready to grow this year. It was a good time to buy it.

The flies in the plant's traps are courtesy the 100's of dairies in the region in which I live. All the Venus Flytraps (and about 2 dozen swallows that nest here every year) gorge themselves on some of the billions of flies in this area. So they are all very well fed from mid-Spring through late Fall. If a Flytrap is digesting an insect, I don't take it out before shipping. My Flytraps are usually in fairly robust good health so the insects are beneficial to them even when they are transplanted, a time that would ordinarily introduce some stress. But with healthy plants, that stress is minimal and they recover, make their roots comfortable in the new medium and grow well again within just 2-3 weeks.
