Did anyone have any experiences with this species? My plant is sending up flowerstalks now, but I'm cultivating it without any knowledge about this species. It's hard to find any info on the net. I keep it in my highland terrarium with some epiphytes, so cold temperatures at night, cool during the day. Not much light, an east-facing window and 15W T5 neon tube. I wonder about the water level in the tray? Any ideas? Half of the pot's height now. Maybe I can give it better conditions.

It has got cool leafs so it's one of my favourite little weeds, and this species is also very variable. Yellow, lilac, pink, white, blueish, little, medium, large flowers... I wonder what mine will be like

Hey buddy - I've never grown it but here's all the semi-useful info I could dig up.

It's sub-tropical and terrestrial, which you probably already knew. Native to SE Florida and also native to Bolivia, Brazil and Peru, so it sounds like what, about a zone 8-10?

A few notes from someone who grew it: http://gelinaud.free.fr/carni/pagdyn.ph ... methystina

Imaged book with a good bit of info: http://books.google.com/books?id=z2SzHm ... 22&f=false

Discussions on terraforums: http://www.terraforums.com/forums/searc ... hid=819098
(kayaker78 and rattler would both be more than happy to share their knowledge on growing conditions for amethystina)

Species account and distribution map: http://www.florida.plantatlas.usf.edu/Plant.aspx?id=584

Everything else I found was just a copy/paste generic description that every site seems to have, or just a brief mention.

Hope this helps.
