Drosera magnifica

Drosera magnifica is a newly discovered species from Brazil.
It only grows on one mountain in two patches. (1500 M above sea level)
It is now being offered for sale for the first time ever. (currently sold out, I believe)

Mine arrived only one week ago.
I'm growing it in a 50/50 peatmoss/perlite mix.
It sits in a tray with 1/8 inch (3mm) water.
The pot is sitting on my basement floor in the coolest place I can find.
Temperatures run from 65 to 70 degrees.
I have it domed until it recovers from shipping and starts producing dew.
Lighting is Daylight LED synchronized to local dawn and dusk.

The advice I was given was, "Grow it like a capensis, just a little bit cooler."

If it does perk up and become happy, I will most likely post an update.
If you look close, you can see it is starting to Booger Up and produce dew.

Special thanks to my favorite plant person for giving me a shot at growing this species!

Good growing,
Mike

Wow! Good luck with it! It would be cool to see this species get established well in cultivation.

This is incredible seeing several good growers with this in the states. Hopefully you guys get them dialed in relatively quickly, so we can start seeing more of them around.

Mike very nice. Mine seem to be struggling a little bit. Hope they recover as nicely as yours. I did ask Kamil about the growing conditions and here is his response
Hello, that species looks not so difficult for cultivation. In my conditions works day temperatures about 25-30°C, night temps 15-20°C, like intermediate conditions. Good light and higher humidity, with drop on the day. The growing medium: sphagnum moss + quartz sand, much important is keep the substrate slightly wet, not over wet - otherwise roots may rot, if pots stay in water. Hope this helps.
I am going to try and do this for mine today.

Here are some update photos taken today.

So far, it isn't dead. It hasn't collapsed into ruin and decay.

It seems to be a slow grower but I'm satisfied with its progress, so far.

Everybody else, out there who got one... how are yours doing?

Good growing,
Mike

Stunning Mike and Hollyhock. Where did you get them from?

There was a group order from BCP this Summer.
I threw caution to the wind and bought one.
This is a species where you fall in love with it at first sight.

I saw one guy on FB who bought a dozen or so of them.
He was planning to grow them up to 2 - 3 inches tall and sell them.
I imagine he'd want about 50 - 75 bucks a pop.

Good growing,
Mike

Another update, just because.

Several leaves are unfurling and the glands are starting to color up.
I think it's reasonably happy, so far.

It's starting to remind me of a Drosera indica, with its growth pattern and appearance.

Once I have a few leaves fully open, I'll start to feed it and see if it has the same insatiable appetite that the D. indica complex has.

On a side note, when it arrived, it had a leaf half broken off from shipping.
I cut it off and half buried it in a peat/perlite slurry.
A month later, I see two green growth buds appearing.
It looks like I have a strike.
I'll post a photo of that when it gets bigger, if it survives and grows.

Good growing,
Mike
