I purchased a pure green nepenthes ampullaria that I put in a glass jar to keep it warm and humid. the problem i have is that it is growing vertically and I want it to have some basal pitchers, I see pictures online if beautiful carpets of ampullaria in pots but how do you achieve this. I would hate it if it starts to crawl like a vine. also should it be bright or shady?

it will have basal growth as it gets older(just a short time but not so short) then u chop the stem above that u dont want and have the stem for propagation hehe

i grow my ampullaria under 50%shade.but if its stress now,dont give it sunlight.put it in a shade place since i once killed an ampu bcoz of that.

I believe you need to leave at least 1 main stem with leaves for photosynthesis. Basal rossette only appears when the stem starts vining.
Start with a 5 inch rossette, it should start produce basals in about a year. Depending on where you live, shade may or may not be needed. In the tropics, home of this species, it does well with some level of shades.
The plant will take couple of months to adapt to your environment. Enjoy growing!

I don't recomend putting ny plant in a terrium. They adapt to low humidity very well
and nepenthes ampurilla getts pretty big.

I now have a 3 inch plant and most a burnt leaves, what should I do

place it at a shadier place and dont move it here and there.until it settles down,gradually introduce it to more brighter sunlight but under 50%shade-70%shade ok?
i almost kill my plant when putting it under sun when it first arrive on me and it gets sunburn and the leaf is soft...

I just got two ampullaria plants too! They seem to be adjusting well. I had the same question about the low pitchers. That's kind of the same with my ventrata; I didn't want it to grow so high (like a vine).

Well nepenthes seem to only produce the upper pitcher when the tendrils have something to climb on.
In the wild that would be trees and vines.
If they don't have like a stick or something to climb on upper pitchers probably won't form.
