Where do you have it? Inside/ outside
If inside: what kind of lighting? It may be getting too little light. It probably need more direct sunlight. Too little sunlight can cause the plant to grow her weak or small or non-existent traps.

Yes it seems when leaves are blocked/deprived from light have a higher percentage to not grow traps on the end. It's just gonna happen every now and again don't worry about it unless all your new leafs have no traps on the end then you might start scratchen your head. I personally cut them all the way off,but others will say to keep it for photosynthesis.
