Hi I bought some seeds and this is my first time with any fly traps. They were planted on 27th May and so far no shoots. They are much bigger than they were before planting and I noticed one has split. Nothing has come out of it though. I also have two green seed shaped things and wondered what they could be. Could anyone help me with this? Thanks

I give the seeds everything they need as I researched them before I bought them.

How did you sow them? What kind of soil/water did you use? What are the conditions? I've never had vft seeds change size on me after sowing them, so I'm a little confused by that. Where did you get your seeds?

They're on the top of the soil with rain water from the water butt. They're in a poly tunnel with light and 20 to 30 C. It's quite hot here but they seem to be ok otherwise. Maybe it's just me with the size lol. I just want them to grow so maybe it's my imagination. I got them off a seller on ebay. Thanks for getting back to me by the way :)

It could be that they're old seeds and may not germinate at all. I'm not sure what 20-30c is in f, I know around 80-85f is optimal. FTS seed is always excellent, I have always gotten near 100% germination rates.

Oh that's a shame :( I did so want them to grow. Maybe I'll just get a plant. I got the same for my dad for Father's day :( shall I just chuck the seeds away? Could you help me with the original questions?

Without a picture, it's really hard to tell what the green and splitting things are. As for the seeds, they may still germinate, just make sure they stay moist and warm, and give them more time. With seeds that are an unknown age, it can help to soak them in distilled water for 24-48 hours prior to sowing, to help rehydrate them. Ones that sink during that time are most likely to actually germinate.

Fts seed is seed purchased through this site's store, the flytrap store. :)

Well I'm not too worried about the green things but I will try to take a picture of the whole thing later. The splitting relates to the one seed also just in case you are wondering. Should I take the seeds out and soak them in rain water (I have no distilled), and then put them back into the soil?

Thank you so much for your help (I won't throw the seeds away yet as it's only been nearly four weeks). :)

Really it's not too late to soak? They've been planted for three weeks. I am using rain water.

If they haven't sprouted, I don't see what it would hurt. Rain water is good, too. :)

Ok but I'm worried it might do something if they are doing anything. Say they're nearly ready to sprout? Sorry this is so long but as I said I've never had Venus Fly Trap plants or seeds so want to get it right.
