So.. i decided to try my hand at Utricularia graminifolia.

Build:
5.5g tank
inert lava rock substrate (CaribSea Eco-Complete)
sponge filter
USB powered air pump
Nicrew skyled+ LED light (very bright, very cheap)

Utricularia graminifolia you can pick up at PetCo in TC cups


I am not running CO2 so it might be some time till i give a update. the plants in the back are just red cryptocoryne to cover back wall, i cut off the leaves because they would just melt and regrow under water leaves anyway. I also added some water spangles to suck up any nutrients and minerals.

Maybe in YOUR Petco. I've been stalking my Petco for a couple of years, mine doesn't stock it.
I was thinking of putting it in my aquarium, but I quickly found out my fish are jerks that uproot plants.
Yours looks like it will be a nice result.

It ships off the website for 6.52 a cup, its also the lowest rated live plant. My guess would be people don't treat it like a CP. I went to three stores today, all three had it in stock but the first two stores it was in poor condition(browning).

I am betting my soft CP safe tap water will make this the perfect carpet for me.

I just returned from my trip to Petco and apparently, there were none left.
I did find some TC cups labeled with "Utricularia Graminifolia" on them in the aquatic area.
The plants that were in these cups were not actually utrics though.

Graminifolia is one of my favorite utrics. It has an undeserved bad reputation. It is easy to grow and blooms readily. I grow mine emerse with a very high water table. The bad rep comes, imo, from people trying to establish it in an aquarium and rush the process. It takes some time to get well established (away from fish)but is well worth it. Tissue cultures are available from a number of places. That's how I got mine. I think it makes a great starter utric. Just never let it dry out.

So, I went to two more PetCos and I (finally) found it!
Utricularia Graminifolia in all its glory!
I bought this one for $10 even though the online price is $6...
I'm going to repot it in a nice soggy peat pot and wait until it flowers.

I'm a total noob when it comes to utrics. Is this how you're supposed to repot it?
I just plopped it onto a soil mix of pure peat moss because I didn't want to damage it.

Did you get all the tissue culture gel off of the roots?

I beleive so. I sprayed it with RO water and placed it on top of the soil.
Am I supposed to bury parts of it or just let it root itself?

Thanks! I'll keep misting my new utric and make sure it'll never dry out.

If you see noticeable roots, you can cover them loosely with peat. Be sure to cover the roots with water and keep them covered.

Is this overcrowded by utricularia standards?
