I've tried to grow Drosera schizandra twice before, and both times I killed the sundew. The first time it died due to rot (I kept it in a nearly sealed jar, and water eventually pooled in the bottom when I wasn't paying much attention). The second time a schizandra died was because I sprayed the terrarium with an insecticide to kill an outbreak of small, white worms.

After the second one died I dumped the terrarium, soaked it in insecticide for a day, then rinsed it. I also soaked some new LF sphagnum in hot (boiled) water to kill any animals in the moss. To avoid rot I drilled about 10 holes around the side of the terrarium, and about 5 holes on the bottom. These holes allow the soil to drain, but are not high enough to affect the humidity. The air holes on top of this terrarium were sealed with silicone sealant. I planted my new schizandra in it about a week later.

I keep it close to, but not directly under, my growlights.

When I bought the schizandra it was about the size of a dime, now its larger than a quarter. I think I may have gotten it in march or probably April. So far so good. Now I'm just waiting until it grows a bit larger so I can take leaf-pullings again. I previously have had a great success rate floating cuttings of this species.
