I water all my plants (except my neps) with the tray method, and so far, I've using an individual small trays for each plant I have. While using individual trays is really water efficient, I'm lazy and am trying to reduce the amount of work I need to do.

One thought has been to start keeping multiple plants in larger trays so I don't need to refill as many trays as often. The only issue is that the 1020 trays I found at the hardware store are a bit too large for my grow space, which is a wire rack with size 48x18in. The 1020 tray is a few inches too long and I don't want to have part of the tray sticking out as that would make it more difficult to cover the sides of the wire rack with mylar (which I do to boost the efficiency of my LEDs).

What kind of setups are all of you using? What size trays do you have? Do you know where can I buy trays of different dimensions?

Trays are an issue for me too.

They are never the right dimensions, never the right depth and never the right color.

It sounds like the 1020 trays are almost "perfect." If you're willing to and you don't mind the aesthetics, you can cut a few inches off and put them back together with epoxy.

I use a combination of clear plastic food trays like the "systema klip-it bakery box" from Amazon and the trays from Perma-Nest (which you can get with matching humidity domes) from a place like IGS:

Evenwind, how durable are those perma-nest trays?

They look kind of thin like the 1020 trays, I want to be able to pick up the tray when I have water and plants in them. The 1020 type trays are too flimsy for that.

I don't know how much strength you actually need but mine seem pretty sturdy. I know that IGS sells them as the standard tray for lightcarts and their ads show the carts stuffed with clay pots: http://indoorgardensupplies.com/?s=gt22 ... pe=product

Hope the one you ordered works out for you.

Out of curiosity, what is the right depth and what is the right color?

I prefer my pots and trays to be only white. For heat reasons.

I also prefer the trays to not be deeper than the pots are tall. So like 3"-4" deep.

I ended up getting these: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Large-White- ... /374173057

Given that I'd never have more than 1.5 inches of water, these trays are good. They're a little bit shorter than I'd like, but better than every other alternative I've found.

Fieldofscreams, I agree that white trays are nice. White pots are also something I've been looking for, also for heat reasons. Have you (or has anyone else) been able to find a source for decent plastic white pots?

This is what I am about to try. Hopefully it will look good and be UV protection.
