Please help me identify what we are doing wrong with our VFT please! Only use distilled water and have an indoor grow light on it. House kept around 72 degrees and 50-60% humidity. Thank you!

Have you been feeding it or triggering the traps to close? That will happen once the trap has exhausted itself.

@Panman
We fed it a few flies a few weeks ago but the traps no longer trigger bc they are opened so far. When you say they have exhausted themselves does that mean they are close to dying? Is there a way to revive them (or should we not be concerned?) I appreciate your help!

Has there been any changes in conditions recently? when traps die they turn black and are in relatively the same shape as before, just black in color. This folded out appearance general means it dried out at some point, or possibly had frost/heat damage.

We have them getting about 9 hours of light through a grow lamp. Sounds like we need to move them to a sunny window to get direct, real sunlight. If they are dried out does that mean we aren't watering then enough? We are keeping the kids wet and their container about 25% full of water. No new changes to their environment.

If a grow lamp is fine, should we focus on the blue or red light?

Thank you for your help!

No, they are getting plenty of water, IMO it's just had a bit of a rough time getting acclimated to new conditions, but overall will recover just fine provided it gets enough light.

The grow light should be providing way more light than your windowsill. What brand/model is it?
Not sure what you mean by focusing on red or blue light, is the LED you have adjustable? Or do you mean in terms of buying a new panel? The red and blue LEDs are fine, as well as white. I believe many of the white LED growlights these days are full spectrum, so theoretically better. I Haven't noticed too much of a difference personally.

i am growing some fly traps from seed under a grow light. its the 100w equivalent flood light style 6 inches from the pot 14hours on. they seem to be doing ok. I will place them outside this spring.

to get the power of the sun in a lighting system is not worth it to me i grow my temperate plants outside, but i live in the perfect area for it. some of the tropical CP's like sundew's or nepenthes will grow great under less light or just a sunny window.

Looks like the light might be burning the leaves and not providing enough photosynthesizable light (i.e. the light is too hot and not bright enough).
