At my location, it takes a good 3 weeks of highs consistently in the low 60's (15-18 °C) for my plants to believe that winter is over, usually happens in late March / early April. This behavior prevents them from breaking dormancy if I get 3 or 4 warm days in a row in late winter.

Mine stand in water over winter so I don't have that problem. Up until yesterday those in trays, both outside and in the greenhouse were frozen solid and stuck in ice in the trays at -5C, and those in bogs were just frozen to whatever depth the cold got to in them. We get occasional freezes till end of April, but the Sarracenia are waking up then, and starting to make flower shoots. The average temps for April over here are 13C high and 6C low. The outside VFTs take a lot longer to get going and generally don't start doing anything energetic till June when the average temps are 19C high and 10C low , the VFTs in the greenhouse start getting away in May due to the warmth in the GH.

I use the thin, plastic, painter's drop-cloths as tarps to protect the flowers and new growth from late frosts. They're inexpensive and lightweight, so they don't bend the new growth.
