Hi everyone,

I have a Venus flytrap which suffered greatly last summer due to heat stress, at least according to the nursery I got it from. As a result, several of its traps browned and withered, but it looks like it's finally recovering.

As you can see in the photographs, the plant is still quite green and new traps have finally sprouted. Nevertheless, I was wondering if repotting the plant could benefit it. Its current pot is quite small and the nursery staff agreed that repotting the Venus flytrap in fresh soil could help it recover.

On the other hand, I fear this process might stress the plant too much, especially considering it will have to enter dormancy in a few months. I was also considering pruning the plant soon. I would love your opinion on this before taking action.

Best regards.

If it came fromma big box store by all means repot it. They typically use tap water.
If from a reputable cp dealing then I would wait until its dormant as that will cause less stress.

Thanks for your reply.

As mentioned in my previous post, this Venus flytrap came from a nursery specialised in carnivorous plants.

It was doing fine until summer when its leaves suddenly started turning brown and it stopped producing new traps. According to the people at the nursery, this was probably due to heat stress, even though I kept my plant under the shade at all times during the hottest months.

I guess that all I can do right now is research as much as I can about dormancy and prepare my plant for the winter ahead. If everything goes smoothly, I will have a chance to repot it next spring.

What worries me the most is that this Venus flytrap is still struggling to produce new traps. Although a few have managed to develop completely, many still turn brown at the tip while small and never develop, as seen in the photographs below. Although the frequency of this phenomenon has decreased since last summer, it sadly still happens. I would love to hear your thoughts on it if you know more about it.

Thank you again for being so helpful.

Best regards.
