Most of my Haworthia collection. At the request of @bug_cemetery but I accept compliments from everyone :D

This is just a photo dump, I'll have to come back later and edit to add the names. Gotta rearrange some plants to make a germination chamber.

Overview shot. This is my whole collection of Haworthia. Planning on putting some mylar wrapped cardboard u0 on the sides and back for increased reflectivity. I'll get around to it eventually.

Haworthia cymbiformis f. variegata. Editing to add a "before" photo; I got this plant in a trade late last summer and it was in pretty rough shape. Happy with the progress it's made.

Haworthia cymbiformis. Super common but a great clumper and I'm a sucker for a good clump.

Not just you, they actually are translucent. Many species of Haworthia have partially or completely translucent leaves.

These are awesome! I never knew any of the species and cultivars beyond the relatively boring ones sold by the big box stores until recently. You have some really nice ones!
Aside from Renny’s Haworthia https://sales.maughanii.com/ do you have any recommendations? I love looking at Renny’s site but it’s more for true collectors, not newbies like me . The sheer number of hybrids (and the prices on some of them) are a bit eye-watering.

@Bug_cemetery, Thanks, and yeah there's such a crazy variety out there it's kind of insane. Honestly, right now is about the only time I'd recommend a beginner get something from Renny. She's selling her Lucky Bags right now and the Bronze bag is a great way to get some nice, relatively easygoing hybrids to add for a pretty good price. Honestly I've gotten at about 60% of my collection as rehabs and/or gifts from people who know I lioe haworthias. The nice variegated cuspidata and 'Shirafu' I got from someone on the r/Haworthia subreddit. A few of the small ones in the 2" pots came from @Reganrocksyoursuccs on Instagram. I will recommend @SandysHaworthiaGarden on Instagram; she's great and will help you find something you're interested in. Beyond that it's just hit or miss on Etsy/Ebay. KylesPlants is a fantastic vendor on both platforms. Mikeyanddon619 on Ebay have haworthias pretty regularly that go for reasonable amounts of money. ShoalCreekSucculents on Etsy/Ebay seems pretty good but I've never ordered from them.

Oh yeah, the goldmine is Miles2Go. Great plants, unbeatable prices, plant drops are in spring and fall and they go *quick*. That's off the top of my head but if I think of any others I'll let you know. Steven Hammer is a good name to know but he doesn't update his shop on Etsy very much. You might have better luck emailing him. You should definitely check out Artisan Plants because they are masters of selective breeding, on the same level as Renny IMO. Aridlands is good but can be hit or miss on getting what you order. They're usually pretty good about making up for any mistakes though. Jakub Jilimecky is an overseas seller of plants and seeds that you could check out. Also HaworthiaLand is great IMO and their seed list came out not too long ago. Get a Small Lots of Seed permit (it's free) and you can import a ton of seed pretty easily.

Edit: also, you'd probably be surprised at the variety that's in local plant stores and big box stores now. I've had weirdly good luck going to small greenhouses and local plant stores that specialize in tropicals/aroids. They'll usually have some sort of token "Succulent Corner," and since Haworthias don't need quite as much light as cacti or Echeverias, they seem to show up in those kinds of places in my experience. Just a random flat of Haworthias. Haworthias have also been tissue cultured to a pretty good extent so I've been seeing nice ones like H. splendens, cooperi var. truncata, Tsukikage, etc. show up in big box stores pretty regularly for $10 or so. Word of caution though, eriophyid mites (blister mites) have kind of swept the haworthia growing community in the US over the last 5 years but particularly the last 2. It's really cooled off my willingness to buy plants to introduce to my collection and I've moved more to seeds. Eriophyid mites aren't terrible to deal with, but it usually takes a few rounds of Avid and many growers advise sprinkling carbaryl dust in the crown as well. Since both of those are treatments you only want to do outside or in a very well-ventilated space, it can reaaaalllly suck if you live somewhere that you can't grow outside for 6 months (like me) and if, hypothetically, you discover an infestation at the beginning of winter (like I did). Quarantine, quarantine, quarantine your new plants. Just a PSA.

I clicked the hammer button because I was curious about what it did. I have figured out what the hammer button does. But now I feel guilty that I bumped the thread and have nothing new to show. So I've renamed the thread and have decided this'll kind of just be my running plant progress thread. And also (hopefully) some mild propaganda to convince any of you people who don't grow any succulents yet to start doing so.

This is one of my favorite plants. I rotted the original and saved some leaves. This plant usually remains solitary to a degree not found in almost any other echeveria so I'm very excited to have some multiheaded specimens.

This next one is a mouthful - Sinocrassula yunnanensis. Black plants are the best plants. Yes, I'm a grown adult with children but the part of me that used to color my nails black with a sharpie in middle school will never die and that part of me screams, "gimmegimmegimme," anytime I see a black plant. Someday I'll learn how to grow that black orchid.

Where did you get the Sinocrassula yunnanensis? What's the spread of a mature rosette?

I originally got a crested one from someone local about 2 years ago. I rotted that plant and saved a leaf which I grew into the plant these leaf props were originally taken from. Since then I've seen some S. yunnanensis in a plant shop on the south side of Indy going for $3 in a 2" pot. The prices online are nuts.

Hard to say how large a mature rosette as my older plants are still relatively young; i'd guess around 2"-3" max. They're rather small. They do cluster quite readily though so it's not unusual to have a little mound of them around 5" across. They're monocarpic so the growth pattern is similar-ish to Sempervivums. If you'd like one or two just lmk. I can send you some once the weather warms up if you cover shipping. They grow like weeds tbh.

The orchid I was thinking of was Monnierara Millennium Magic 'Witchcraft'.

I may take you up on that. ;) You might also like Ech. Black Prince. (Very easy grower.)

I suspected that might the one you were thinking of. There are also some cultivars of Maxillaria variabilis which have very dark to black flowers. (As the species name implies, the flower color is highly variable amongst individuals of this species.) you might also be interested in Haemaria (aka Ludisia) discolor. It is a jewel orchid with very dark leaves.

I love black plants! And I think I just bought a Sinocrassula yunnanensis a few weeks ago- maybe you’ll be able to confirm the ID! (it was just tagged cactus/succulent) … but I couldn’t pass it up cause it was pretty unique.

@DragonsEye,

I had a couple E. 'Black Prince's and a couple E. 'Black Knight's awhile ago but got rid of them. I grew them in too mucj light and they tend to take on a dull brown with really high amounts of light. Really great plants though and easy growers like you said. Might have to get a couple of them again now that I have more room. The one I'm really on the lookout for now is Echeveria unguiculata, would love to get my hands on one of those.

Don't talk to me about orchids, I have a hard enough time saying no to the phal hybrids at the grocery store 😅. Jewel orchids have been on my list of plants to grow for ages but I just can't bring myself to break my own heart like that. I've killed my fair share of plants but killing one of those would just be such a shame. I'm sure I'll get over it if I find one for the right price though :D.

@Bug_cemetery,

Yep! That's S. yunnanensis. Looks like you got the crested form too. Seems to be sold relatively often which is weird to me but w/e. The leaves prop super easily if you ever decide you want some backups.

Ok I’m a sucker, just bought a couple Haworthia and an Agave at one of the big box stores because their shipment just arrived and they hadn’t killed them yet.
No tags. Anyone want to take a shot at ids? Clumps are baseball sized and were bare rooted immediately when I got home. I like the cluster look but would listen to advice on whether or not to remove some pups.
