First off, allow me to apologize for the late start of this month’s contest. Things are a bit crazy around the old homestead and I’m running just to catch myself. So without further ado, this month’s contest.

You can’t be around carnivorous plants for more than a quick minute before you are proselytized on the merits of sphagnum moss. And with good reason; sphagnum moss and its derivative, peat, is part and parcel of the husbandry of carnivorous plants. This month we celebrate this amazing bryophyte and the role it plays in your collection. Whether a ground cover for an outdoor bog, a potting medium for heliamphora, or a starter culture that you resuscitated from dry moss, we want to see your live sphagnum.

As usual, here are the rules:
1. You can share only pictures you took personally.
2. You can submit only 1 photo for this contest.
3. Pictures shared in previous contests are not eligible.
4. Minimally edited photos only. No effects, or filters. Cropping is okay.
5. The winner will be the entries with the highest number of thumbs up (likes) votes.
6. Only votes from members with at least 5 posts will count.
7. This contest is open internationally, although there will be an alternate prize for international winners.

This month, @Matt and Leah from The Flytrap Store are providing a FTS Towering Giant flytrap for our prize.

From the Flytrap Store website:
"FTS Towering Giant" was officially named in July 2014.. This elongated monster flytrap creates spring leaves that can reach over 7 inches in length! Couple this with larger-than-average sized traps, and it's definitely an attention grabber...as well as an insect nabber!!!
Let’s see those sporophytic splendors!

It just has to be a picture that you took.

I couldn't choose just one, so here is an overhead shot of my sphagnum farm. Red? Yellow? Green? I've got it. One of the trays is an awesome, compact moss that forms a dense blanket of green heads.

Thought I had some nice shots of my large terrs before I started tearing them down for remodeling, but, if I did, I can't find them. Will have to settle for this instead...

Sphagnum at RedLeaf Exotics! Plus a bonus Nepenthes.

(I totally didn't use this because I brutally cut back the beautiful carpet of moss overgrowing my N. mikei right before this contest opened)
