#2 free soak the tub and put it in the house for 8 days.

It's a gamble with the rain. Coming from a place where it rains supposedly all the time, forecasts are often wrong.

The string concept might work, I used it to create a self watering moss pole. depends on how absorbant the media is tbh. For me it helps with the LFS but it'll still dry out if I don't water it directly.

If I was in your shoes and I wanted to ensure their survival, I'd skip the optimal condition concept. When I had to leave my house for a week I had someone water the stuff outside but inside I had to take out half my lights, drop the timers, dome everything and wrap pots to hold in the moisture. Honestly only one plant really showed wear but it was something I messed up on.

Honestly depending how much sun and how hot it gets are going to be the main factors on how much water the plant is going to need. If you think you can find a shadier spot to put them where they can still catch rain, perhaps that'd be a good play. Then you wouldn't have to fight the tedium of trying to overkill it.

I'm no expert but I believe I had a plant similar to that very large one. If it's the same that thing might as well be a cactus.

Well if you do actually do that, don't keep them in the sunlight because that'll seriously jack up the soil temperature.
