Hi hi, just bought this, googled the name and read a bit, it says moist soil. But seller taught keeping it dry like cacturs. Anyone else has this to share the experience?

The red leaf ping is from google, are they the same? If not, what is it call?

For me, esseriana grows slowly and the color is slow to develop. Mine did not color up until the second year for it. I grow it in mostly mineral mix, with a small amount of peat (less than 10%). I keep the pot in about 1/2" of water Don't let them dry out too much. My main issue with them is that the leaf pulls strike easily, but they grow so slowly that strikes have a high failure rate. Otherwise, an easy, beautiful variety.

rather effectively a calcareous mineral substrate.
in fact this color is rather the result of UV
all of my mexican pings are currently dormant in dry or just wet substrate.
by the end of the month I will take them outside in the shade, half shade or morning sun, with simply a more important watering without going to saturation
