I may have made a big mistake?... 2 days ago while looking at my vft's i noticed the divisions, and their(divisions) crown & root where exposed due to my lack of potting, so i decided to divide them and potted in to 2.5 inch pot,

could they have done better without dividing?

They look fine and don't appear to be dramatically going down hill. Dividing them will set them back a bit but they should be fine. You might consider temporarily reducing the light level and increasing the humidity until the roots are able to get established. Or, do like me and throw them back to the wolves. Either way they should be fine.
