i have some pygmy sundew gemmae i need to plant asap, but i only have QUIKRETE pool filter sand available, i have no idea if there are minerals in the sand that can kill the plants, anyone know if this sand is reliable?

It'll be fine. It's the brand I use for my CPs. Virtually every mix I have uses that stuff.

my guess is any pool filter sand would work or else it would be very bad for pools.

Some Drosera are slightly picker. I'm sure most would *survive* in a similar mix though if you change the ratios they'll do better. For instance, Anglica and Affinis like heavier peat in their soil. Petios tend to like sandier, tuberous like sandier. For the most part though, I find myself doing something like 45/45/10 peat/sand/perlite. That's a preference though, it allows the soil to be more free draining. As long as it has enough peat in it, the moisture should be enough for the plants. Another mix I tend to gravitate towards is 40/50/10 or 40/60 peat/sand with perlite. I use those that for most Byblis, Sarracenia, and Cephalotus. A lot plants can grow in most anything, it's more about how well they do in that media. It'll grow but probably won't grow as "well"

I've stopped using sand since perlite is cheaper. You can use the ultra-large grained perlite at 1:2 perlite:peat and it works well for petios.
