Hi everyone, I just bought this Sarracenia, but I'm having trouble identifying what species it is, I would like to ask if someone could help me, please. Also one of the pitchers is dried at the top, can someone tell me what might be the reason it's like that, if it's normal and how should I help it (if I should) to prevent it from spreading. I just bought it like this also with other carnivorous plants from the same shop and they don't look unhealthy to me, so I don't think it's because they were in bad conditions, but I might be wrong.

And the last question, kind of not related to original topic, but hopefully you will forgive me. The smallest venus flytrap has roots growing from the bottom of the pot, should I repot it now or wait until dormancy? Also some of the traps are inside other traps, should I do something with it or leave them like that? Thank you!

It looks like a purpurea hybrid. Either S. x Carolina Yellow Jacket or S. x Fat Chance. It's a bit hard to tell until it colors up more (assuming it does) I'm leaning towards Fat Chance, but I'm no expert.

Definitely lots of purpurea in it. Maybe pure or purpurea x (purpurea x ????) The dried pitcher is normal. I would repot the flytraps when they’re dormant. It doesn’t matter if traps are inside other traps, it happens in nature.

Could it be a S. rosea? Or is it impossible to tell without the flower stalk?

The crazy thing is that they are so similar in appearance that the species was just considered a variation on venosa until the 90s because it looks so dang similar to that particular purpurea. IIRC it was the flower that gave it away. Wild.

One way to be sure is to wait until it blooms in the spring.

Red flower on a tall stalk: Sarracenia purpurea

Pink flower on a short stalk: Sarracenia rosea

Reddish-yellow or orange-ish flower: Sarracenia purpurea hybrid
