I got my plants today from FlyTrap Store :D

Cephalotus Follicularis: I was surprised at the size I got. I was expecting it to be really tiny but not only is the plant bigger than what I expected, I can also see at least 3 individual plants in there. I would have been happy with just one of them.

Purple Ambush: I ordered a starter potted plant but according to the invoice, it was upgraded to a young potted. Thanks! 2 of the traps seem to have eaten bugs that are too large, hence the blackening.

Balcony location getting about 3 hours of direct sunlight per day. Lighting is supplemented by 2 T5 HO grow lights. This setup seems to be really good for the DC XL's growth and new trap formation. I would give them more sunlight but this is the best I can do in the mean time being in our apartment. I plan to move the Cephalotus to another shelf that gets much less sunlight for the time being while it's still acclimating.

Very cool! I'm sure you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of them. I've been very pleased with all my orders from FTS.

that's awesome .
I have been considering purchasing from the
flytrap store for at least a year,
but I have done most of my plant shoping on ebay
because it was cheaper,
but if your happy with your plants i
may have to finally breakdown and get one from them
too :)

You get what you pay for, most of the time not even that when it comes to eBay VFTs. I learned my lesson the hard way.

I wouldn't buy off of eBay unless I knew the seller. The "deals" I got from eBay have turned out to be not so good. I'm sure there a few individuals that are honest sellers but for me it's not worth the risk.

I honestly think that the FlyTrap Store's prices are on the expensive side. The quality and health of the plants are outstanding though! I can also be certain that I will get the cultivar that I paid for. I plan to grow out my VFTs to have each cultivar eventually fill out its own large pot. I know that this will take years. Looking at it at such long time frames, I think the difference between a $10 plant and a $50 plant then becomes negligible. This is especially the case when considering all the time, effort, and resources that I will put into the plant for the years of cultivating and ownership. Besides, I used to keep a reef aquarium, so I'm used to paying $30 - $100 for a piece of coral that is much harder to care for than a plant. :D

I just realized that I might have been under watering my DC Xl for the past few days. I have the pot sitting in a Dollar Tree glass like this. This photo shows the sphagnum moss is quite dry.

The bottom of the pot does not reach the bottom of the glass so the pot is supported by the glass on its sides. Apparently, this created a seal which prevented the water from being absorbed into the hole at the bottom of the pot by the sphagnum moss. I don't leave water in there the entire time. I do check on it every morning and I will put enough water to soak about 2cm of the bottom of the pot. Sometimes, I will come back home and the water will be below the bottom of the pot. Sometimes though, it would seem like it hardly took up any water. When this happens, I just assumed that the moss at the bottom of the pot must have been saturated with water even though the top is barely moist to almost dry.

We went back to Dollar Tree and I bought glass beads to put inside the glass to support the pot from the bottom. After I did that and watered the pot with the usual 2cm of water, the moss absorbed it within just 30 minutes. :o I did this 2 more times until it wasn't absorbing the water at such a fast rate anymore.

Royal Red. I think this is one of the newer leaves that formed from a bud since I received it.

I am hijacking your thread but I just received my Alien and Fused tooth today and am super impressed. I have ordered from 3 or so other nurserys and nobody comes close to the quality of packing. Plants arrived in flawless condition and are bigger and better than expected. cant wait for next season to put in a larger order.
