Is thier such thing as putting to much perlite
I know you are supposed to do a 50/50 but is it possible to put to much?

There is a multitude of issues that I think may rear their ugly head.

1) not enough soft medium for the roots to take hold of
2) would dry out very fast, thus could harm, or at least stunt the plant's growth.
3) May introduce too many nutrients to the soil, or not enough... take your pick

I've just used straight peat moss for years, and have had no problems. I could see how a thin layer of perlite on top might reflect sunlight and help prevent overheating in really hot locations, though.
