here's the 2 survivors of that terrarium project last year lol...

spring just starting so they might start putting out some mad growth

also... really crazy, a couple seedlings managed to grow underneath sphagnum (completely excluded from light, grow up through about an inch of sphagnum, and have traps popping out the top of it..

they literally germinated and grew over 2cm in complete darkness? lol

ill post pics later

This was the only plant to survive my very first attempt at tissue culture. I was using a heating mat which was getting a lot hotter than I realized and killed all but this plant off. It also endured some contamination. It's now almost 2 years old and undergoing its first dormancy. This is it right at the end of Fall. Look at those pink teeth!

Hi guys,

This is my first time getting a VFT, and this little seed grown trap just came in the mail this morning. Any tips and tricks for this beginner? I've done my research but any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

One thing I learned the hard way is that although as much light as possible is a good rule, when its over100f outside shade can make the difference between life and death

These babies are FTS special red mix seedlings, somewhere around a year old now. Note the true reds are small and ever slow-growing

Looking great Pete! Do you know what percentage of the seedlings were red-leafed for you?

Unfortunately I don't. I lost seeds and seedlings along the way, and out of maybe 2 or 3 packages of seeds this is what I was lucky enough to have survive. 4 out of 6 are red-leafed, and the one to the left in the corner is starting to show a lot more color now too. So 4 or 5 out of 6, depending on who you ask, but still hardly enough to give an accurate percentage

4 out of 6 is about the average I've experience (somewhere around 60%) when I've sowed the seeds of our red mix, so that's good!

Update on my superior FTS red mix seedlings:

This one came out green, but is a super tall grower
Image

This one is somewhere halfway between red and green and has super long cilia

And a true deep red seed-grown. Similar in appearance so far to a Red Piranha

The last 3 are still very small and I didn't get new pictures of them

These little traps are from plants that were purchased from FTS so the seeds are too, germinated in June and planted last month they are just starting to appear, they are an assortment of Akai Ryu, Sawtooth and Bristletooth they should be very nice next year but will post when they grow a little more.
