Yep. nothing special. I just dump the two together until I like what it looks like. I did chop the sphagnum up before I mixed the two.

It works! Why try to make things more complicated than they need be?

Man, I need to get some pics of my seedlings up here.

I also just ordered these seed packs from Brooks Garcia;

"Blood Moon" x (alata x minor)
And
(catesbaei x flave rubricorpra) x "Blood Moon"

It'll be a while before their done stratifying and actually sprout, but I'll be sure to post them when they do.

I guess I lied when I said I didn't prefer hybrids. ;)

Dionaea Seedlings. all planted at the same time, June 27. Of the 40 seeds I split between two pots I had about 34 germinate and after a few squirrel attacks I have around 25-30 left.

The seeds were from Flytrap Store's ebay page and are from "giant and special varieties"

Those babies are looking good parker! I love seeing baby flytraps grown from seed. That means more genetic variety in cultivation :) And some of those look like they could be quite special!

I'm hoping for special. :) The VFT in the pic with the ruler is by far the largest and most robust of the seedlings which you can easily see in the last shot. Now granted some of the others got delayed from being dug up by the squirrel, but still, the difference is astounding.

Also, it seems you all got a two-fer. In the lower right of the first picture is a D. intermedia that was grown from the seeds Steve was giving away a little while ago. They had only been growing about 5 months before winter came. I assumed they died by the way they looked but it looks like I was wrong. A pleasant surprise.

Absolutely loving this time of year. Dormancy 2011 I germinated some seed bought from the Flytrapstore; it's been a very up and down year and a half with these guys, I lost an entire pot of babies due to dehydration (shocking how quickly things dry out in summer in Britain) but the few that remained did very well during dormancy. Two of the babies died but the rest are doing exceptionally well. Here are some photos:

This pot also has a single "Wacky Traps" young plant in it because my other pot is full of my typicals... and yes, my soil mix is a bit bizarre as it contains the remnant of my Pinguicula mix (I really don't like throwing good soil out so I'll experiment). The plants haven't complained in the time they've been in their trough... I tell you though, it was a challenge pruning these guys - they're TINY!

Edit: just noticed the ancient sticker I threw on the window when we first moved here. Hahahah... memories.
