It might just be the base I live on too that purifies the water a bit more

Ah yes, that could totally be it! I honestly just distill my own water for drinking and plant purposes and call it good. Haha

The median is probably around 135, although it varies according to location.

I've been watering with tap water for a while now and my plants don't mind. I leave them outside to flush with rainwater every few weeks so minerals don't build up.

I just purchased a TDS meter from eBay for $6.00
It appears to work rather well.
I've checked several water sources and it reflects the difference of TDS in each water sampling.
I was happy to see that Dehumidifier water was at 18 ppm.
Has anyone had any experience using Dehumidifier water on CP's ?

grabbed an HM digital TDS-4 off amazon - paid around $17? and another $10 on the calibration solution...probably overpaid for it all for the purpose being used but eh! seemed pretty close to accurate after getting it adjusted - close enough for the intended purpose at least!

took this as a chance to do a science experiment with the kiddo (her plants technically!) and she put together a lil science report for her teacher about it. we took guesses as to what the best to worst would be, tested it and I helped structure the report for teacher and let her come up with what to put down! without further ado:



Distilled: 1PPM
rain water collected off carport dripline: 3PPM
pur water filtered water in fridge: 80PPM
kitchen / bathroom sink well water: 98PPM
pond water from small 1/2 acre pond outside: 128PPM

We run tap into a large holding tank that is aerated to drive off the chlorine. It is on an auto top off controller that dispenses every night.
This water is used with all CP's we grow and have no issues.

Gday, What are your thoughts on pond water?(clear, not green) I'm a full newb when it comes to these, but I've been using pond water in a spray bottle for my bamboo because tap water burns the tips of the leaves. I've sprayed the VFT twice since iv had it to keep it moist, but could it possibly kill it from contamination or something?

Also 3 goldfish in the pond, not sure if that changes anything. (I dont test levels on anything, i just do stuff and hope its not dead the next day lol)

Buy a TDS meter and test it.

I really thought I'd already put an entry in this thread - but I guess not.
Anyhow: south shore, Nassau County, Long Island NY: 57 ppm

Suburb of Denver, CO - between 350 and 500 depending on the temperature. My TDS meter says it compensates for temp but it clearly lies. Whatever it is, it's VERY hard. Can taste it and see the accumulations on everything it touches.

My family lives in Pembroke Pines, FL. Between 30-45 there. They don't even need distilled water. I'd be jealous if I didn't hate Florida so much.
