Sundews confused dormancy

Last winter I started a bunch of seeds and cuttings under lights. They were on a 16 hour photo cycle and everything grew beautifully and got good color. I moved them outside in April out of necessity but they seemed to handle it well and looked good. Fast forward to May and my intermedia and one tracyii that were under the lights start forming hibernicula. Now they look like they should in mid-December. I am sure they will wake up again soon but any ideas why it happened and what I can do next year to keep it from happening again?

I would probably also guess they're reacting to the change in photoperiod. You're a touch further south than me, so they'll probably pull out of it soon.
