Squirrels!!!

Ok this is a bit of a weird question, but I live in a a neighborhood that is overrun with aggressive squirrels. They have been known to chewy on the wires in cars, plastic gas tanks, siding on houses, outdoor furniture, etc. Put out a pumpkin around Halloween and it will be immediately massacred. The problem this poses for growing carnivorous plants is that they love to dig and hid nuts everywhere, but especially in wet easy to dig in soil. This makes it hard to grow carnivorous plants in containers or build a bog. Has anyone experienced anything like this and do they have any tips for keeping the squirrels from digging? Right now the only thing I can thing to do is build a squirrel proof enclosure, but that feels like a last resort.

It is the only thing that has saved my plants and my sanity. Prior to this we had an outside cat and he took care of things.

Impressive.

Looks like I'm going to be heading to home depot soon.

Nice. How much did that run you?

Just under $400. It is 12' long but apparently that model isn't available any more. We actually plan on using it as a chicken coop eventually.

Oh, cool. The one you linked to looks more of my size. Gonna have to research these now. Thanks

I've been having squirrel problems too - what a nuisance! I've been building cages out of PVC pipe and metal screening (called "hardware cloth" for some reason) which is fairly easy if you want something smaller. Here's a pic to give you an idea:

I'm still figuring out the best approach and will probably try something other than the hardware cloth since it's honestly kind of hard to work with (difficult to bend and it has a TON of sharp points when you cut it to size). Hope that's helpful though!

You might want to look at Tractor Supply for general purpose netting. It is plastic and should be easier to work with on a smaller scale.

This looks great. I also love the repurposed sink! I think I'm going to have to resort to something like this. I've got some old scrap wood and bird netting that I might try to make something out of for now.

I've used this in the past, but I hate working with bird netting. Last year I had a chipmunk who was so dead set on eating my squash plants that he managed to get completely tangled in the bird netting and died before I found him. That was not pleasant to cleanup. Nevertheless, I suppose short of building a whole cage this is still the best option.
