What temperatures and humidity should the gemmae have? Will a 1:1 ratio of peat/silica sand be fine for the rest of the plants' lives? All advice is appreciated.

Temps under 75° F (keeps them out of dormancy). High humidity helps them sprout faster, from what I have noticed. 1:1 peat and silica should be fine. I normally do a 1:2 peat and silica ratio because I like having more sand, but it shouldnt matter too much.

I've got mine on equal parts peat/perlite/ sand. The top 1/8 inch is milled sphagnum because I don't like the perlite floating all over the place. I sowed my gemmae on the 18th and already have some sprouting. The soil is in the low 80s and the pots are bagged.

Remember to sprout them in a larger pot then you would with seeds, as they do have long taproots. And, you Cannot repot them.

8 inches is a lot.

David actually says that you can used cut up pop bottles. Or used yoghurt containers, like me and Panguy

No, no the large ones. I would think they are around 7-8 inches.

4 inch pots may not kill them, but their taproots can be 8 inches, which is an awfully tight squeeze

If you give them full himidity when you sow them, yes. But once you acclimate them they will grow pretty well, and it shouldnt take long to acllimate them.

Is it normal for the gemmae to turn a grayish green color? When I sowed them, I sprayed them with distilled water. The pot is covered with plastic wrap. The water level is a couple inches high. They are getting about 14 hours of light. I'm hoping the gemmae sprout and that there's nothing wrong with them.

That might be a bit too much light. You should sprinkle a light layer of sand over the gemmae.
