Some advice regarding live moss

I have gotten 3 gallon zip lock bags of live sphagnum moss that were harvested from a bog by the owner of the bog. It looks fabulous but I am a bit concerned about trying to prep it so that it is safe for my plants. I am thinking multiple washings and leaving it outdoors this winter to try to kill off any critters. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Probably submerge it for a while to try to drown bugs. Maybe put it with a capensis or other plant you have multiple of for a while after just to make sure that it’s good.

Top dress your plants with it right now. Let it propagate how it will, and go with however you feel is the way to go.
Live moss adds a really nice effect.

My 2¢ worth: I've never picked up any pests from wild sphagnum moss.

Ive never worried about this, but if you have soem concerns put it outside for a couple of days but keep it wet, or submerge in rainwater for a day.
