Hello All,

First of all many apologies if this is in the wrong section. I have been growing a Venus flytrap for just over a year and I've decided to repot it out of the small pot it's currently in. I have a bag of Sphagnum moss peat soil, I've read that it can be planted in the soil alone and it will be fine but also read that you need to add sand to it also.

Could somebody advise me what to do with this soil please. I live in the UK so some products may differ to American members.

You can use Long fiber Sphagnum moss with some perlite in it as well. Just nothing with fertilizer in it.

Assuming there are no fertilizers in your peat, and it is good quality, you can grow a VFT in that soil alone with no problems but you have to be very careful not to keep the plant too wet or you risk it rotting. By adding sand (or perlite) you will make the soil drain better and it will be more "airy", both of which are considered to be a good thing. Therefore, my advice would be to add the sand (be sure it is non-calcareous sand) and/or perlite (no fertilizer). This should make thing easier for you and safer for your plant.
