I've currently got some literal windowsill orchids in bloom. These are your typical NOID miniature Phalaenopsis that can be had at the local supermarket for around $10. I got them at half price by waiting until the bloom spike was dead and the plant looked pretty bad. They actually didn't need much TLC, just repotting and normal Phal culture. I assume that the breeders are looking for small size, bright colors and extreme hardiness as opposed to the normal long graceful arches of perfectly aligned blooms you see in their full-sized cousins.

The last plant is an Australian Dendrobium, meaning it is a hybrid of many Australian species. I was very happy to see it blooming - it's a real stretch for my conditions (and level of expertise!)
