I washed as much as I could and there was only a little dust/mud left. (you can't have it be completely perfect)

I thought the point was to wash away dissolvable minerals.

Yeah. Dust and mud is usually the only dissolvable stuff there is.

I don't know if the multipurpose sand works very well. The sizes of sand grains are too big, and lots if the grains don't like silica. At least it was only 5 dollars. I did finally find some pool filter sand locally. Will this work (it says >99 percent silicon dioxide): https://www.acehardware.com/departments ... ment/83029

I too stopped using that sand. There was just too much junk in there.

See if you can find play sand. I found some for $6.17 for 50 pounds. Same brand (sankrete), at the same home depot. The granules are definitely silica.

Looking at the product you listed, I honestly don't think the price is worth it. (IMO)

How big are the granules? Do you have any pictures?

Particles are around 1mm . Passed vinegar test.
- Particles are silica
- Particles are consistantly sized
- sand is pre washed
- not much "dust" or fine particles

That's all I can say. I'll see if I can get any pictures. Just be patient...

I think so. The pictures of the packaging are outdated.

I'm just looking at the reviews and pictures. Some people get really fine sand, and others get very rocky sand.

Interesting. I really haven't had enough experience to say. (I only bought one bag).

Alternatively go find your nearest sand box and plunder it.

I think I'd rather pay more and be confident that I will get what I need. Does $20 dollars for 50 pounds of pool filter sand sound right? Anyone here use pool filter sand?

I use pool filter sand. I don't use a lot of it, but I use it. A bought a bag probably 5 years ago and I have no recollection of the price but $20 for 50 lbs is better than most of Amazon's offerings. I'd say go for it.

If you have any pool stores nearby you can usually get it for under 13 for 50lbs. Last time I had to buy was 4 years ago for brackish tanks I paid 20 for 100lbs.

I bought a bag of aquaquartz pool filter sand for $12 two months ago from Leslie's pool supply, they advertise it for $15 online
