I though I would share how I stratify my sarracenia seeds.

Tools:
- Paper towels
- Distilled water
- Ziplock bag
- Permanent marker

Procedure
1. Wet a paper towel with distilled and wring it out until it is wet but not soggy.
2. Set out the seeds on the paper. Space them out in case some mold starts to grow. That way you may avoid it spreading to other seeds.

3. Fold the paper towel in half so that the seeds are covered.

4. Roll it up so that there is no air trapped inside.

5. Label the bag with the name of the seeds and the date that you started the process.

6. Put the towel in the bag and roll it up. Try to remove the air and seal the bag.

7. Put it in the refrigerator and set your alarm for 8 weeks. Fresher seeds could probably be okay with 6 weeks.

Once they come out, sow them on peat or chopped sphagnum and treat them as you would any other seeds.

Here is the result of this evening. Plan on seeing some of these in the seed bank.

I haven't had any mold on the seeds. The paper towel has black spots but I think that is oxidation, not mold. I haven't had a mold problem after I sow them either.

I would do that too, but my wife would kill me! Honestly, that is probably the better way of doing it so that you aren't handling the seeds but it will expose them to a greater likelihood of mold. This method has worked really well for me with sarr seeds. I got 100% germination from fresh flava seeds and have gotten about 30% germination from some 2 year old seed.

If you sterilized the soil would you still have mold?? I would like to try your method because it takes up way less space.

Pretty much my same method as well. Removing the seeds from the towel can be a total pain though . How do you do that? I usually use a wet toothpick to pick them off and onto the soil, but it can be pretty painstaking…

I haven't done this with a lot of seed, but it seems to have worked. I put the seeds in a vile with distilled water and put the vial in the refrigerator. After the 6 weeks, I dumped it onto the growing medium and they sprouted. I have only done this with Drosera intermedia 'Carolina Giant' and I don't know if they would have germinated without the refrigerated time.

For Drosera I just spread them onto a pot with LFSM , put it into a ziploc bag and throw them in the fridge for 4 weeks.
