Hi, I was given a pot of young VFT. Very crowded
I repotted into correct dirt with sphagnum moss. Well watered and now standing in a South facing window.

All the traps closed as soon as I started re potting and the entire plant looks droopy

Will it recover?

I'm sure it'll be just fine. Got a picture? It's probably just transplant shock. I don't know if it's possible to to replant without closing traps tbh.

Nah they'll be fine. But I do feel like I must mention light. Light actually gets filtered when it comes through a window. Can you put them outside so they can get the direct light? If not, there's really cheap lightbulbs and fixtures you can get. It cost me about 20 tpu 25 for four light bulbs and two fixtures. The bumpy texture and yellow color are an indicator of bad lighting. It was my problem for a while.

Yup putting them outside is the best thing you can do. They are temperate plants, they need full sun and also need to experience the changing of the seasons.

You do have a problem with the container being too shallow and I'm willing to bet you don't have drain holes in the bottom.

They don't look tiny to me, they look like adult plants.

Ok thanks guys.
The weather here in UK is wet and dull atm but as soon as we get some sun they can have a trip to the garden.
It's starting to warm up now it's spring.

They were raised in a greenhouse by a friend

I'm not sure how big they grow as I haven't had them before. I imagined them to be much larger.

The container is about 8 inches deep and no drain holes

I'm just keeping it moist. Should i repot them again. Would they suffer if I did so?

They did have flowers on them but I cut them all off

Really appreciate your feedback

Pot should be at least 5" deep.

It's warm enough to put them outside even in the UK.

I think their pot is fine, but they definitely need outside. If it's 40 degrees Fahrenheit, they go outside. I'd bring them in if it pours, you don't have drainage holes. But I put them out and leave them out.

Right. They still look droopy and all traps are closed so, I'm putting them outside as suggested, where they might catch a ray of sun if we get any.

Watch this space!

If I wanted to put them in a better pot, should I wait for them to recover first?

I haven't had this problem with the other carnivorous plants that I have.
They reacted to repotting like ordinary plants but these VFTs were like potting a handful of worms! Image

If you're putting them in the sun in a pot with no drain holes, make sure they don't dry out. That's why it's best to have holes in the pot and a tray of water under it.

Thank you

I eventually repotted them into separate pots
With drain holes.
I placed some sphagnum moss at the bottom to avoid the soil draining out with any water.
They sat outside for a while. It rained on them a little. I brought them inside onto a light, South facing window. It still gets quite cold at night
They look just the same at the moment
Sort of droopy and closed. I guess they will stay that way at least 24hrs.
If I manage to save one I'll be happy

Just leave them outside. No reason to bring them in.

Bringing them in and out constantly will do more harm than good

It's only 3 degrees tonight ImageImage

Won't that harm them? They grew up in a huge greenhouse Image
