Heres my first real attempt at a couple carnivorous garden. I'm no stranger to plants...I grow all kinds of stuff. Veggies, cactus, mushrooms, fruit...pretty much anything I can get my hands on :P . I did my research before I bought the plants and with a lil fine tuning help from you guys i'm very confident i'll be successful...hopefully  .

The Mini Bog

It's for my VFT only. I decided to put this together today because I went to Lowes and saved, or prolonged their torture  , a few CPs. I picked up 3 cubes of VFT and 1 cube of Sarracenia rubra. Ended up with 6 VFT and 1 beat up pitcher. I also have 6 typicals and a couple Dente on the way through mail order. I figured making one of these would be the easiest way to grow them.

It's nothing more than a 2 1/2-3 gal tub with a hole drilled about 2 inches up its side for drainage. Filled it with perlite to the drainage hole then topped it off with peat/perlite. Nothing special. I did add a tube so I could fill the res through that instead of watering through the soil.

Going to try and let them go dormant indoors. My computer room is at a lower level then the rest of the house and it stays very cool in there. I'll probably put them on the floor in there for the winter. If that doesn't seem to work i'll tke them to the garage.

The Terrarium

For my pitchers. The S. Rubra from Lowes and a S. Judith Hindle on the way. I haven't done anything to the aquarium besides put the plant in sitting in a bowl of water. Decided to take up this project tomorrow after planting my VFTs. I'll post pics for comments and suggestions when it's done :) .

Probably let my pitchers grow and not go dormant this year. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Heres a few new additions. A typical and a couple Dentes.

Waiting on a few more typicals then i'll probably pick up some Big Jaws and more Red Dragon to fill this container up.

Probably a couple of hours at the most.

At repotting these...no. They've all been bare root or wrapped in sphagnum so it wasn't too difficult to transplant. The mini bogs are a lot like a passive hydro setup and I have quite a bit of experience with those(grows humongous tomatoes) so that helps a lot.

What problem are you having with transplanting? I wont guarantee I can help but I may be of some assistance. Thank you very much for taking a look. Have any suggestions on my current setup pls don't hesitate to give them.

u know if the bog gets crowded,u need to take out the plant and replace the media and seperate the plant.if normal pot,i just turn the pot upside down and squeeze side to side of pot and the plant with rootball will come out.if a bog like this,i need to dig up the plant and i afraid if i snap a few roots off.

From what I can tell, and again i'm just a noob with these, they are pretty much just bulbs. Ime, bulbs are tough as nails and can handle a lil root damage with lil to no problems. I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction because these may be more delicate than reg ornamental bulbs but i've handled all of mine just like I would a hosta bulb, for instance, and none have died so far(knock on wood). Maybe the more experienced VFT growers will chime in for both our sake :D.

Heres a vid of a guy doing a transplant with a tub very similar to how mine is set up.

Nice mini bog! I want to make one, but I think it would take up to much space... I think I could make a mini MINI bog with just a few teeny seedlings til they grew up.

I like your dente traps, is it just the picture or are they really kinda orange colored inside? Very nice! :D

Terrarium

I'm having a lil trouble keeping the humidity above 65. I just sealed the top a few minutes ago so i'm hoping that will help. Temps seem to stay around 75-80 with the lights on. I may have to let her go dormant because the temps are getting so low I think it would be easier. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
