your plants goes in to dormancy in winter not summer , its your summer there now right ! you can re pot and spilt closer to spring about a month or 2 before is good ,just doing mine now . but I am in ozz so its winter here :D
If you have the traps up on the sarras there in full grow mode not dormancy

if you split it now in its prime growth time you will set it back wards for the rest of the season ,not all ways but most plants do not like it and will recover again next spring, unless your plant is budging out of its pot or the potting mix has gone stinky or its been in the same pot for more than 3 years there should be no reason to split the plant , unless you have a particular reason for doing so ??

Well thr rhizome is bulging above the soil and i wondered if the plant would appreciate to be split into its own pot (it has naturally done it)

just give it a bigger pot.
and pot it up against one side of the pot, with the growth points facing (and growing) toward the opposite side of the pot where there's plenty of room.
