Should I plant clover with my new orchid? They are legumes and will return nitrogen to the soil. My pot is on the big side and I have one butterworts in there (orchids and butterworts have similar living conditions to those who don't know). No, I do not let the butterwort flower either.

Orchid roots are very large and when growing could basically knock other plants out the way..
Or it could work the other way as orchid roots like alot or air and clovers roots ma suffocate some, although this shouldn't effect your plant.

You should note that clover doesnt do very well on acidic soils. And most likely your orchid soil is. They also need a good nutrient balance, which orchid soil won;t give..

Only way it would survive is if you gave it a weak fertiliser spray every month or so. It shouldn't effect the orchid or butterwort too much.
