As promised and predicted, we got a record-breaking snowfall here in Louisiana (and nearly the entire Gulf South). Such a rarity here! I know many of y'all are in the same situation. Hope everyone is safe & warm!ImageImageImageImage

We got 2 inches just south of Atlanta. Most of it has melted in the sun but the roads in the shade are still icy.

I got about 2 inches (5 cm) worth of snow here, too:

A few Sarracenia rosea are under there somewhere. I get the feeling that they're not going to be happy come springtime.

The pictures of New Orleans with 10 inches (25 cm) of snow were crazy!

I wonder if that's enough coverage to give them a bit of insulation. I kept my S. rosea through a few northern winters - some years we get snow, some not. Last winter was its last and I suspect it was a prolonged freeze without snow. Hope that yours surprises you and shrugs off this atypical winter for your area!

Given a choice, rosea's prefers very mild winters, lows no worse than 40-45°F / 4-7°C, highs reaching 55-60°F / 12-15°C, no frost. I know some people who keep them in south-facing windows during the winter, and their plants do just fine. My rosea's were just tolerating the regular winter conditions in eastern North Carolina; I'm afraid to see how they reacted to the past 3 weeks of frigid weather.

I wonder the wild plants handled the snow that just blanketed the Gulf coast region.

If my experience is anything to go by, S. rosea are fine with the snow, but it's just cold or windy weather that does for them outside, same with minors and psittacina. They seem to be very cold intolerant, so MikeBs statement rings true with my experiences.
Cheers
