Deep in the tropical rain forests of Borneo a predator lies in wait for an unsuspecting victim. These notorious hunters are called Nepenthes {screech of needle being dragged across the record (younglings ask your elders)}

This month's contest centers around Nepenthes, also known as tropical pitcher plants or monkey cups. You can show us your collection, one plant, or even one pitcher. If it is of Nepenthes, it is valid. Our standard contest rules apply:
  1. You can submit 1 photograph for this contest.
  2. It must be your own picture.
  3. Pictures shared in previous contests are not eligible.
  4. Minimally edited photos only. No effects, filters or collages. Cropping is okay.
  5. The winner will be the entry with the highest number of thumbs up (likes) votes.
  6. Only votes from members with at least 5 posts will count.
  7. Members who have won within the past three months are not eligible for prizes but you can still enter.
  8. This contest is open internationally with an alternate prize for the winner.
@Matt and Leah from the FlytrapStore are giving away a 'Korrigans' Venus Flytrap.
Image
Here is what the FlytrapStore website has to say about it:
Korrigans is an officially registered Venus fly trap clone that has the unique feature of the leaf-base being fused to the trap. The lack of a petiole, the thin part that the trap normally attaches to the leaf with, makes for a very interesting looking flytrap!

Dionaea muscipula Korrigans is a very unusual flytrap that was discovered and named by Guillaume Bily. Korrigans, for which the plant was named, are unusual creatures that have a human body fused to animal legs.
Ready, set, SHOW!

Here's a pic of my unruly Nepenthes shelf. They are all lowland/intermediate crosses growing in normal household conditions. In the picture you can see pictures of a rafflesiana "White" x rafflesiana "Wings", ampularia, edinensis x bicalcarta, and a NoId.

My one and only (unidentified) Nepenthes, in a glass planter in a window at the office. Neps aren't really my thing since I don't have a greenhouse, but it was so cute in a 1" pot at the nursery that I couldn't resist. It's grown quite a bit since the beginning of September but I don't think it's getting enough light - maybe when the sun gets higher again and the courtyard/atrium gets brighter. (And yes, it will probably outgrow the planter sooner rather than later, but I'll figure things out then.)

One week into our contest, and here are the standings:
|optique 6
JenCooper 4
hollyhock 3
Jade 3
jgreen1025 3
Panman 3
Stratofortress 2

There is still plenty of time for you to share your Nepenthes photos. It doesn't need to be a current photo, as long as it is a photo that you took.

And don't forget to vote for your favorites!

This is my precious Lady Luck that was almost lost to severe sunburn but after several months of being bagged and indoors she has made a full recovery!
