After looking at it I guess it does not really matter. The light is going to reach the plant regardless. What plants have you tried thus far? My first ones, which I linked to were not really large. Fresh cape pulls/cuttings about an inch long work great as well as VFT cuttings from as close to the rhizome as you can get.
Pic is of 2 ea. 4" pots that contains live LFSM and roughly 20 or so "T" Binata stem cuttings, many of which have strikes and others will be soon.

So far for leaf pulls in test tubes I have only tried a few that Hollyhock sent me. The first was graomogolensis. It made little bumps like it was going to make babies, but then the leaves discolored and kinda dissolved before they could grow. Wrong light, temp, I don’t know. Now I’m trying some binata ‘Staghorn’ that she sent as well.
I do have some test tubes that I could try leaf pulls with, I haven’t really thought about it to be honest. I’ve tried VFT and drosera flower stalk cuttings in LFSM with mixed results (10-ish% success). I have decent luck with ping leaf pulls that I set on the media surface and cover the ends of. Maybe I should try some of my flytrap cultivars in the test tubes. Is there any point to doing leaf pulls on them when they are going dormant or should I wait til spring?

I tried the same, but I think mine was too far gone. The slimy leaves seemed to get absorbed into the sphagnum. I’ll have to pay more attention this time around.

I replied to this once but it mysteriously disappeared.
IMO, Binata's are some of the easiest species to propagate. I stick 1 1/2 - 2 inch pieces straight in to live moss and a couple weeks later I have several that pop up. It seems they hit that way much quicker than in test tubes.
I purchased between 30-40 named cultivars from a retiring eBay seller about this time last year. Honestly, I wish I had taken clippings of all of them with the initial luck I had. So if you were to take some good clean cuttings from the rhizome before placing in dormancy I do not think it would be an issue.
All my plants that need it are in greenhouse for dormancy this season but come spring time I hope to get around to getting cuttings from all my VFT's and Drosera so I have "backups" and I can figure out which seem to strike best. I also want to try dipping some in a rooting hormone as an experiment to see if it makes a difference. Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions.
