Halloween is over and fat boy is on the way. In between, for those of us in the US, is Thanksgiving. For this month's photo contest, we will be giving thanks for the plants that we have. Any plant is fine, whether it is something that you were gifted, you grew from seed, or even just a plant that you think is amazing.

The standard contest rules apply:
  1. You can submit 1 photograph for this contest.
  2. They must be your own picture.
  3. Pictures shared in previous contests are not eligible.
  4. Minimally edited photos only. No effects or filters. Cropping is okay.
  5. The winner will be the entry with the highest number of thumbs up (likes) votes.
  6. Only votes from members with at least 5 posts will count.
  7. Members who have won within the past three months are not eligible for prizes but you can still enter.
  8. This contest is open internationally with an alternate prize for the winner.
This month Matt and Leah at the FlytrapStore are offering a great prize. It is winner's choice from the list below. That's right, the winner will get to choose one of these three items for their prize! The descriptions are too long to include here, but you can click the links to see the details on the FlytrapStore website.

I am thankful to Matt and Leah for hosting this community forum and sponsoring this website. I'm also thankful for the members of this community that makes this a fun and interesting place to hang out.

So let's hear what you are thankful for. You may go home with one of three great prizes!

I already used my favorite picture of the plant I’m posting in one of my collages, so I’m gonna use a different one. I couldn’t find one that looked as good, and of course at the moment it’s looking a bit radded lol.

I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to write a little thing about why we chose the plant, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt.

I got this with 7 other plants (I think I bought them as like 6, but there were divisions) from Lowe’s. They were all typicals which I thought meant they would look roughly all the same. I didn’t realize that typicals could have things about them that looked like cultivars. I got really lucky with most of them having really interesting properties.

This is the one that made me realize I wanted to try tissue culture (next year) and trying to grow my own cultivars. It has so many unique characteristics that I really wanted to see if I could grow clones and if they would turn out like this one or if there was some weird thing that made it only grow this way this time or not this way for someone else.

I’m hoping if I am able to do tissue culture and have it work out well for me that I can find a couple people to send clones to to test if they will grow the same way for other people. :D

I named it after the first VFT I had that unfortunately didn’t make it because I hadn’t yet come here and gotten the amazing advice y’all have given me.

Thankful for my King Sundew, drosera regia. Been growing this particular specimen since February 5th and it struggled in my care until I found a cool window for its highland night conditions as well as reducing its distance from the LEDS during the day. Prior to that it was so unhappy it refused to eat. Now it curls up quickly around spiders like this one.

This is the plant I am thankful for, along with ChefDean who provided me with the seed to start it. I won about a dozen seeds in a contest he had in August of 2023. The seeds were sown Oct. 2023. This guy has done nothing but impress over the past year, surpassing 13 inches when put in greenhouse for dormancy this year. It was grown under light for 23 hours a day for the first 8 months. This is the only one that germinated.

I love this tubby little ampularia. It was given to me by a young friend of mine. He comes by every now and then to help me with my plants and to talk about carnivorous plants. I really enjoy spending time with the younglings that also enjoy this hobby.

This is the plant I'm most thankful for. This was my first carnivorous plant that I did my research on so it didn't immediately die. If it wasn't for this venus flytrap named Fluffy, then I wouldn't be in this hobby at all. :D

I'm thankful for this Rosea, my second carnivorous plant. It is extremely easy to grow, and it continues to be one of my favorite plants.

I'm thankful for fall colors in Sarracenia! This is S. leucophylla Bay Co., FL in my large pond form. We've had Santa Ana winds for a week now and I really need to do some cleanup, plus it's looking a bit overgrown with other stuff.

Not eligible this month, but I’m thankful for these plants that I won in one of Hollyhock’s fabulous giveaways when I first became interested in CPs. She sent me a “starter pack,” and when the box with my very first CPs arrived, it was like Christmas morning (or Christmas Eve night at my house)! That pretty much solidified my obsession.

I am thankful for my first carnivorous plant (Nepenthes Sanguinea). I got it at a local nursery and I didn't do much research so I was in for a surprise when I found out that it was harder to care for than most other plants. Growing carnivorous plants has opened me up to a whole new community and new friends that I would have never met before.

One week into our contest and we have a bunch of entries already! Plenty here to be thankful about, that is for sure. Here are the current standings:
ChefDean 7
andynorth 6
Optique 5
Hedonista 4
Jade 4
jgreen1025 4
Stratofortress 4
wcrosman 4
JenCooper 3
